Tensile Facades (also called textile, fabric or flexible facades) are an innovative, long lasting, cost effective alternative to traditional metal mesh façade screens. They cost approximately 50% of a metal mesh/ perforated metal façade. Additionally, this exterior “2nd skin” building system acts as a screening or shading device. Tensile Façades can come in various forms and shapes and can span great distances with less structural support than traditional materials. It typically consists of a clean modern aluminum framing system, custom steel brackets (if required) and a cladding material that is either a tensile mesh, tensile membrane or tensile clear foil (Coated-PES, PTFE Fiberglass, or ETFE Foil). Many manufacturer cladding materials are 100% recyclable and have a minimum of a 10-year warranty and 18 to 30-year life expectancy.

BUILDING FACADES: On a façade of a building over glazing or windows, Tensile Mesh Façade Screens provide a very attractive aesthetic while reflecting solar heat, reducing glare, maintaining daylighting and visual transparency. This is a very green way of saving money on energy costs as well as installation costs. There is a project in Los Angeles where the owner has documented they have saved over $60,000 (USD) annually since 2005 in energy costs due to adding a Tensile Mesh Façade Screens over the exterior windows. That was $660,000 savings over 11-years which is a significant savings that paid for itself in just a few years. The Tensile Mesh Façade Screens also regulated the temperature inside of the building since the solar heat from the sun did not over heat one end of the building on while the other was too cold.
