Completion Date: 1995-2005 | Fabric Area M2: 7500 | Fabric Type: PVC-PES
The Auckland International Airport is the main gateway to New Zealand and greets and farewells over 10 million passengers each year. The past decade has seen significant growth in passengers and aircrafts through the Airport, resulting in numerous expansions of the main terminal.
Structurflex first installed tension membrane structures at the airport in 1995 with two vertical membrane structures accentuating the main terminal entrance. Over subsequent years and significant expansion, tension membranes remain a key feature of the main terminal - providing shelter for passengers and visitors while enhancing the look of this important gateway.
The flexible nature of tension membranes has enabled them to be relocated and mixed in with new membranes to accommodate the building expansion work with ease. And because of the fabric's longevity there is no visible discontinuation at all. These are key factors for architects to consider when designing spaces or buildings that have the potential for further growth.
